State Talent Search Exam for Tribal Class VIII Students in Meghalaya

The State Talent Search Examination (STSE) in Mathematics and Science is a special initiative launched by the Government of Meghalaya through the Directorate of Educational Research & Training (DERT), Shillong. This scheme identifies academically gifted tribal students of Class VIII and provides them with financial incentives to nurture their talent during secondary education (Class IX and X).

Eligibility Criteria

• Must have secured at least 50 marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in Class VII
• Must intend to continue studies in a recognized secondary school within Meghalaya


Selection & Award Distribution

• Selection is based on merit in the State Talent Search Examination (STSE)
40 students are selected from SDSEO Shillong, East Khasi Hills
20 students each are selected from the remaining 14 SDSEOs of Meghalaya
• The exam is conducted and supervised by respective Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs)

  3. Get your Student Registration ID after completing registration

  4. Use this ID to log in and access the “Fresh Application” section

  5. Fill out the application form and upload all required documents

  6. Click “Final Submit” to complete the process

  7. Note your registration number for future reference

  • What is the amount of the Incentive?
    The incentives award in the form of financial assistance amounting ₹600/- per month per awardee for twelve months for two years from Class IX-X will be provided.

    The Principals of Schools will be notified by the SDSEOs to submit the list of the eligible candidates.
  • Who will be eligible to appear for the Examination?
    The SDSEOs will screen for the selected candidates from the list and documents submitted by the Principals.
  • How many students will receive the Incentive?
    240 Students will receive the Incentive, that is 20 each from all the districts of the State of Meghalaya except for East Khasi Hills that is 40 where there are many number of schools.
  • How are the students selected?
    Based on the merit list of the State Talent Search Examination conducted by the SDSEOs of the different districts of Meghalaya.
  • How many years can the selected students avail the Incentive?
    Two years during their studies in Class IX and X.
  • Will the Incentive be discontinued for a particular student?
    Yes, as it will also be based on the progress report for class IX and X.
