About the PMSS Scholarship 2025
Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) is one of the financial assistance programs of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Home Affairs, initiated to encourage higher technical and professional education. This scholarship scheme was started in 2006-07 to support the students of the army personnel. After that, a total of 49,189 scholarships have been disbursed to the wards and widows of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and State Police Personnel, up to the academic year 2023-24.
The Government of India has sanctioned a total of ₹1,39,96,72,276 for the PMSS beneficiaries. Widows and wards of deceased/ex-service personnel of the State Police and CAPFs can apply for the PMSS. Wards and widows of ex-servicemen, and wards and widows of personnel from CAPF and Assam Rifles are also eligible to apply. Let’s explore the details below.

Eligibility Criteria for Application
The student must meet the following criteria to apply for the PMSS Scholarship;
- Applicants should be citizens and residents of India and also want to pursue studies in India.
- The student should be enrolled in the first year of a professional degree (e.g., B.Tech, BE, MBBS, BDS, B.Ed, B.Pharm, BBA, BCA, MCA) from a recognised institution by the AICTE, UGC, MCI, or NCTE.
- The applicant must have scored above 60% in the previous exam or MEQ, such as 12th, Diploma, and Graduation.
- Only an MBA or MCA master’s degree is eligible. Other master’s degree students can’t apply for the scholarship.
- Two children from one family will get the scholarship under the PMSS.
- Only regular admission students are eligible for this PMSS Scholarship.

PMSS Scholarship Selection Priority Category
In this section, we are going to share a complete sequence-wise list of the Selection Category, which may be preferred by the government. This list gets the first priority in the PMSS Program 2025-26. Here is the complete list below:

How to Register for the PMSS Scholarship at NSP?
The PMSS Scholarship can be applied for through the Government’s NSP Portal only. To apply for the PMSS Scholarship, you should follow the simple and step-by-step procedure, which is mentioned below;
- Go to the Official Website of the National Scholarship Portal, i.e., https://scholarships.gov.in
- On the home webpage, click on the “Student” option.
- Now, you have to click on the “Register Yourself” Link.
- After that, read all the guidelines carefully and tick the check boxes, then click on the ‘Next’ button.
- Now, you have to register your Mobile No.
- Enter the Mobile Number and click on the OTP button.
- Then, enter the OTP and Captcha Code.
- Click on the Verify button to complete.
- Your Mobile will be registered. Now, you have to complete the e-KYC.
- On the next page, enter the Aadhaar number (student’s or parent’s Aadhaar number).
- Click on the Get OTP option. Now, click on the‘Verify’ button.
- Students will be redirected to a page including personal details.
- Enter all the required details like Name, Father’s & Mother’s Name, Email, Address, and Bank Details, etc.
- Next, click on the Finish button. Your registration will be complete.
- Once registered, students will get a registration number, which is required during the application for the scholarship.
Important Note: This is a temporary registration number; students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.
How to Log in for the PMSS Scholarship?
To apply for the PMS Scholarship, you have to follow the steps below:
- Go to the Official Website of the National Scholarship Portal.
- Click on the Student tab on the web homepage.
- Then, go through the Login option.
- A login interface will be open on your screen.
- Enter the OTR (One Time Registration) No. And Password.
- Verify the Captcha and click on the submit button.
- You will be logged in to your Dashboard.
How to Apply for the PMSS Scholarship?
Here is the complete process of the PMSS Scholarship Application Online. There is no offline submission and application acceptable for this scholarship. Once you have registered and logged in successfully, you can apply for the PMSS Scholarship at the NSP portal. Students must follow the steps mentioned to complete the application process.
- Visit the NSP Portal, Govt of India at https://scholarships.gov.in
- On the homepage, you have to “Apply For Scholarship” Link.
- You will be redirected to the Login page. Enter the credentials and log in to your account.
- On the next page, choose the ‘Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme’ option.
- Enter all the required details in the Application Form, which appears on your screen.
- It will contain academic and personal details.
- Upload all the required documents scanned copy.
- Now, click on the ‘Submit’ button.
- Your scholarship application has been completed successfully. You will receive the confirmation email.
How to Track Your Payment of the PMSS Scholarship?
PMSS Scholarship Payment can be tracked on the NSP. Follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the official National Scholarship Portal.
- Go through the Track Your Payment tab.
- You will be redirected to the Public Financial Management System.
- Select the
