Andaman & Nicobar Additional Scholarship Scheme for ST Students Pursuing Higher Education

To empower students from Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Department of Tribal Welfare has launched the Scheme for Grant of Additional Scholarship for Higher Studies Post-10+2. This financial assistance is offered over and above other scholarship benefits to help students pursue recognized post-secondary courses anywhere in India.

  3. After registration, log in using “Fresh Application”

Renewal Applicants:

  1. Log in to the portal using last year’s credentials

  2. Update academic progress and required documents

  3. Submit the application for renewal approval

  • What is the objective of the scheme?
    The objective of the scheme is to provide additional financial assistance (scholarship) to the ST students pursuing higher education after Senior Secondary i.e. 12th Standard in the Colleges/Universities anywhere in India, as an incentive to supplement the cost of their education.
  • Which is the implementing department of this scheme?
    The scheme shall be implemented by the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration through the funds made available under the Union Territory Plan.

    The award of additional scholarship once made shall be tenable from the stage at which it is given to the student till the completion of the course, subject to good conduct and regularity in attendance, as certified by the Head of the Institution.
  • Can a student who is studying in Class XI of the Higher Secondary School courses or the XII Class of the Multipurpose High School be eligible for this additional scholarship?
    No, the student who is studying in Class XI of the Higher Secondary School courses or the XII Class of the Multipurpose High School shall not be eligible for this additional scholarship, because of its not being a higher/ professional course. However, in cases, where the tenth class examination of such courses is treated as equivalent to Matriculation and students who after passing the Tenth class join other recognized professional/ technical courses, such students shall be treated as Post-Matric students and therefore, shall be eligible for the award of this additional scholarship.
  • For how many months will the scholarship be given in an academic session?
    The additional scholarship shall be payable for ten months in an academic session.

  • Do I need to get my Aadhaar Card to apply for Scholarship?
    Aadhaar Card Number/enrolment number is mandatory for the students in order to fill up the application form online. The students can also apply for scholarship entering the Aadhaar Number.
  • What should I do, if I do not find my institute name in this drop-down menu?
    The student will contact their respective institute.
  • What happens, if I detect mistakes after forwarding the application to the institute?
    Students should separately inform the mistakes detected by you to the Officer of your Institute. The institute has to back the application as an incomplete application and then the application will be available to the students for editing.
  • How can I apply for scholarship, if I am a student of Institute, located outside Andaman & Nicobar Islands?
    Fill up your application online on the NSP portal and submit the filled-up application along with all the documents mentioned.
  • Can I Secure scholarship for previous year?
    No, the scholarship can be claimed only for the current year. Scholarships for the previous years cannot be claimed on the online portal.
